Pharmacist Fired for Denying Emergency Contraception

Advocates of conscience protection laws for pharmacists have long warned that the lack of legislation leaves Christian pharmacists in an impossible dilemma. The Wisconsin state Department of Regulation and Licensing has filed a complaint against an objecting pharmacist with the Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board. The pharmacist, Neil Noesen, refused to fill a woman's prescription for abortifacient "contraceptive" pills, and declined to refer her prescription
to another pharmacy.

Noesen had a verbal agreement with his employer, Kmart pharmacy in Menomonie, that he would not be required to fill prescriptions, such as birth control pills, and that he would be allowed to defer those prescriptions to other pharmacists on duty. Noesen informed the patient that he was not required to fill the prescription but that another pharmacist could do so later. He was alone on duty. The complaint against him states that the woman asked where she could have her prescription filled, but "because of his personal religious objections, (he) refused to provide (her) with that information."

Kmart has a history of firing conscientious pharmacists for refusing to dispense abortifacients. Karen L. Brauer, a Cincinnati area pharmacist was fired by Kmart in 1996 for the same reason. In 2003, Wisconsin bill 63 was introduced to protect against, "employment discrimination based on creed and exemption from liability and discipline for pharmacists who refuse to dispense for abortions, assisted suicides, and euthanasia." Noesen testified in the Wisconsin legislature, "We first have the duty to do no harm. Then, the duty to do good. It (is) unethical to force (medical) practitioners to participate in cooperation with abortions, assisted suicides, and euthanasia."

Noesen faces the summary suspension of his licence to practice if the board finds against him. The case is scheduled to be heard by an administrative law judge in May and Noesen vowed to contest the Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board's charges of unprofessional conduct.

Husband Store

Note: This post is for all men to have a good laugh and only for
women who can handle the truth!

A store that sells husbands has just opened in Sauchiehall St (Glasgow City-Centre),
where a woman may go to choose a husband.
Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store
operates. You may visit the store ONLY ONCE !

There are six floors and the attributes of the men increase as the
shopper ascends the flights. There is, however, a catch . . .. you may
choose any man from a particular floor, or you may choose to go up a
floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building! So, a
woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband . .

On the first floor the sign on the door reads:
Floor 1 - These men have jobs and love the Lord.

The second floor sign reads:
Floor 2 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, and love kids.

The third floor sign reads:
Floor 3 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, and are
extremely good looking.
"Wow," she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.
She goes to the fourth floor and sign reads:

Floor 4 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, are drop- dead
good looking and help with the housework.
"Oh, mercy me!"she exclaims, "I can hardly stand it!"
Still, she goes to the fifth floor and sign reads:

Floor 5 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, are drop- dead
gorgeous, help with the housework, and have a strong romantic streak.
She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor and the sign
reads:

Floor 6 - You are visitor 4,363,012 to this floor.
There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that
women are impossible to please.

Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store. Watch your step as you exit
the building, and have a nice day!

PS: This post is dedicated to the lovely TSM,
who had been posting 'emo' posts the past 1 week.
Hopefully she lightens up soon!
Happy Shopping!!! (not for husband la, sale is on in Glasgow!)

Neno Lee... This one's 4 u!!

This post is specially dedicated to Ai Lian, the Neno. Since Week 1 in IMU, she had been my partner in numerous meetings. Meetings with Peter Pook, medic reps, student unions and now with ang mohs in Strathclyde. From what I see, she's really dedicated and she cares about the class a lot. Ai Lian is very supportive of what the class is up to and never fails to turn up in every event!

Since last year, she was put in charge of handling the MSL tickets to and fro from Malaysia to Glasgow. If it's hard enough to handle your own ticket, imagine dealings for 100 students! I'm sure she went through A LOT of though times, so spared her the agony next time you want to change your tickets ok. Or.. buy her some food... =)

Tomorrow will be our last meeting as batch reps in IMU/Strathclyde. Surely we'll be asking about the ridiculous time-table, but I'm skeptical that our complains will lead to any drastic changes... We'll see....

So, to Ai Lian, well done and I've enjoyed working with you. Good luck in the future!

Malaysia Boleh (??)

Because of this car's many sins, Jeremy Clarkson tortures the Perodua Kelisa to death!!! Quoting JC (not Pei Sung, mind you), this car was not designed by one man who wanted to make a great car, but by a corporation who simply wanted to make money. Look out for the part where he said it's built with no flair or passion, just like a fridge or washing machine!

Officially, classes are over (forever?)!!

Meet Prof Peter Pook. Have you been working hard the past 4 years? Have you tried your best and strived for better results??

If the answer is no, then this is our last chance to shine. Next week, we'll hand in our final year thesis, and then it's time to hit the books! [But let's relax in London first okie?]

Officially, today's Pharmaceutical Care prescribing tutorial was the last class that we'll have in the Mpharm program? Anyone still remember what happened in our first class? Because I don't have a clue. It's been that long! =)

Doesn't it sound scary?? We're gonna graduate soon!!! [Hopefully... =)]

London Anyone 2

Common Elite Team, let's go London! Chelsea players are calling you!!!

Chelsea Football Club (also known as The Blues or previously The Pensioners) are an English professional football club based in west London. Founded in 1905, they play in the Premier League and have spent most of their history in the top tier in English football. They have had two broad periods of success, one during the 1960s and early 1970s, and the second from the late 1990s to the present day. Chelsea have won three league titles, three FA Cups, four League Cups and two UEFA Cup Winners' Cups. During the 2005-06 season, they became Premier League champions for the second consecutive year. Chelsea's home is the 42,055 capacity Stamford Bridge football stadium in Fulham, West London, where they have played since their foundation. Despite their name, the club are based just outside the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. In 2003, the club were bought by Russian oil tycoon Roman Abramovich. The club's traditional kit colours are royal blue shirts and shorts with white socks. Their traditional crest is a ceremonial blue lion holding a staff; a modified version of this was adopted in 2005. Chelsea are one of the best-supported clubs in the UK, with an estimated fanbase of around four million. The club have also made a contribution to popular culture, appearing in films and the music charts.

PS: This post is dedicated to Kelvin, the "self-proclaimed" fan of Chelsea...

Memoirs of a Kampung Boy

We grew up watching Transformers, Thundercats, Woody Woodpecker, Chipmunks, Mickey Mouse, Jem, Mask, Ninja Turtles, Voltron, Baja Hitam and Ultraman.

Had to brush our teeth during recess at primary school?
Had to hold plastic cups, line up with your classmates side
by side and start brushing our teeth at some open area...
or maybe near some drain??

Do you still remember that we had 'dentist' rooms
Where we had to have our teeth checked?

Not to forget our 'program minum susu' in primary school...
everybody is suppose to buy like cartons of milk that cost 30 cents...
and you would see everyone drinking it everyday...
Do u remember the Milo van that served the most delicious Milo ever!!??

The teachers who would want to punish us
Must use the huge yellow rulers to hit us on our palms??
Or the ever famous 'rotan' with chicken feathers!!!

That a bowl of mihun soup or mee soup
Only cost 50 cents at the school canteen...

Went to some sundry shop near the school
or to the 'roti' man waiting outside our schools
so that we can buy junk food like Chickedees, Mamee, Ding Dang with some toys in it,
'Ti Kam' and ice-cream
And we would play games like Monopoly (Saidina??), Uno, Old Maid...
and all other card games like that.

Another fun time would be during Pendidikan Jasmani.
The boys would play football while the girls would play netball...
And it would be like we were playing in the World Cup...

But of course, the best would be:
main guli, batu seremban, bottlecaps, ice-cream sticks, 'Pepsi Cola one-two-three',
Polis dan Pencuri, main kejar-kejar-duduk...
When was the last time you heard "Zero Girl" or "Zero Boy"??

And for the not so active:
Those kind of 'book games'
where we would use buku latihan to draw and ask our friends to play...

Do you remember the ice-cream tubes
which were actually only ice and colouring
that were sold for 10 to 20 cents..
the colourful ones..
where you usually bite off the top to glup it down...

What about days when we felt like doing naughty things such as folding papers
so small to make 'lastik' and shoot each other... and even teachers!
How about throwing chalks??

Back then, Micheal Jackson was just turning white...
and still had mega-hit albums coming out..
compared to CD's, we were listening to cassette tapes that were sold for RM9.90...

In computer class, we were still using black and white computer moniters..
Played 'Atari'... maybe SEGA or NINTENDO...

Well, are we all getting older or what?

If you understand what you have read and you are smiling:

You have friends from school that are already married...

You shake your heads every time you see high school students fussing about their handphones in school..

You don't hang on phone with your friends for hours a day talking about nothing...

When you meet back with your friends from time to time, you feel excited and happy talking about old times, the funny 'adventures' or stories that you guys experienced as a kid..

Last but not least, that when you read this, you would think of all the happy & sad memories that you have experienced when you were still a kid and cherish the moments that have passed you by within a blink of an eye...

Red Card For Kelvin

Kelvin is not only good with virtual football but also real life football. He's been training hard in the kitchen to perfect his dribbling and shooting skill *mostly from side of the goal* but it din quite hit the right spot. Instead, he decided to vent off his anger by repeatedly shooting at the oven until it fell apart ~Sad but true~ First time seeing him so depressed (not a usual scene when fifa-ing with him) after getting a red card from the GAY REFEREE and being made to squat with the oven door for half an hr *we respect human rights and hence no ear pulling cum nude squatting as penalty*

Running of the Bulls!

Ei, what are they looking at???

It's the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain!

The Running of the Bulls (in Spanish, El encierro ) involves running in front of bulls that have been let loose on a course of a sectioned-off subset of a town's streets. The most famous running of the bulls is that of the nine-day festival of San Fermín in Pamplona, although they are held in towns and villages across Spain during the fiesta season, usually in the run-up to the corrida, or bull-fight, and in some cities in southern France, most notably Bayonne. Unlike bull fights, which are performed by professionals, anyone may participate in an encierro, and there is never violence towards the bulls — even tail-pulling is frowned upon. Injuries are common, both to the participants who may be gored or trampled, and to the bulls, whose hooves grip poorly on the paved or cobbled street surfaces. Participants are supposed to have a general understanding of how to run in front of a bull so that they do not endanger other participants. The running of the bulls is the single most characteristic event of the Fiesta of San Fermin.

It is the event which has given the Fiesta world-wide fame and which is broadcast around the world during the fiesta in July. It is held at eight o'clock each morning from the 7th to the 14th of July inclusive. It consists largely of young men (although women may also run) who run in front of the bulls to lead them from their pen up and into the bullring. It usually lasts from two to three minutes - although if there are complications due to loose bulls it can last much longer.

The length of the run is some 830 meters (about half a mile) and registration is unnecessary to participate. Merely entering into the run and choosing a street to run in is all that is required. The run began as part of the process of moving bulls from the edge of town to the bullring. During the mid 1800s, runners began to join the herd on their journey.

Movie Time in IMU

I just miss going to the cinema. It's not like we don't go to CineWorld here in Glasgow, but I mean I miss not going to the cinema every week, or even twice-thrice a week! That was how mad the movie-craze was back in IMU. Remember in Semester 1, how 30+ people from P104 would invade TGV Sunway, and the person buying the tickets will have a string of tickets rolling down to the floor? Also, since we can't decide who to sit with, Anson will always do the dirty job of randomization of seats. It's so funny sometimes, when Zhi Yong was "randomly" selected to sit with Ying Jia, and they will not talk at all!!! Ha. No la, actually they talk a lot to each other la... Oh, I see it coming...... "Pokkai....."!!!!

Chap Goh Mei Eat-together

Yesterday the Elite Team (minus Ang Yu Joe) celebrated Chap Goh Mei in style at our main hub (E-7 and F-8). The girls were cooking since 1 pm and us boys can't imagine tasting such lovely food for such a long time. All the mums' secret recipes came out of their secret dairies yesterday! Tribute, in no particular oder, goes to:

JFC's char siew, roasted ribs and the special of the day "fried boiled egg in pork stew".
Felicia's "Asam mackerel".
Siau Yong's "guo tie dumpling".
Ying Jia's "stir-fried Somalia vegetables"
Lulu Ewen's "Kung Po chicken" and"microwave prawn crackers".
GPS's special vege and desert of the day "green bean soup".
DOlip (Doreen +Philip)'s "Pak Cham chicken" and chicken rice [they are the ideal chicken couple lah...Philip will ask his dad to give Doreen a chicken farm *latest gossip, only at Elite Team*].
Zhi LEE's "honey roasted chicken" [marinated at 3am for best effect].
Joe's "tong yuen".

There was plentiful of food, and the boys gobbled down whatever they can in a matter of minutes! Damn delicious wei... Speechless.. Tragedy struck yesterday though. No one tasted GPS's "green bean soup"! GPS I'm sure your efforts are much appreciated, although we were very full yesterday.

So, Chinese New Year is officially over. Welcome Year of the Pig! May the new year bring lots of prosperity for the talented cooks in E-7 and F-8 and everybody in Elite Team. If you're reading this blog, you'll get rich soon too... So keep supporting us!

Next Year... Chinese New Year... Where will YOU be???

Signing off...
