Negaraku vs Mamula Moon

This a post response to Pei Sung's post about our national song, "Negaraku".

Typically, I think most students from Perak would know about the origins of the song "Negaraku" (dunno about Ah Foo). According to our History Books, one of the Raja Muda of Perak (second to the throne) was exiled to Seychelles in 1800 for a few years. We never knew what mistakes he had committed. While he was there, he fell in love with a local melody. This melody was taken back with him when his exile was over, and popularised as "Terang Bulan" locally in Perak. The Perak State anthem was born not long after that, using that tune. This tune was later identified as "Mamula Moon", as shown in YouTube.

After Merdeka Day in 1957, Tunku Abdul Rahman and his committee selected the tune of Perak State anthem to create the "Negaraku". This tune had traditional flavours and was deemed even more suitable than over 500 songs summitted through a worldwide competition. Students from Perak were either not confused/ very confused because the state and national anthem has the same tune!!!
